Backwoods Buttercup: Natural and cultural history come to life with Backwoods Buttercup’s unique stories.  A mix of science, natural history, and legend and myth promote personal responsibility towards the natural environment.

Frontier Tales: First-person interpretation of a Norwegian settler. Mike shares artifacts and stories from the pioneer era. The program can be expanded to include an outdoor interactive pioneer skills workshop.

Professor Owlbert Eyeshine:  The eccentric professor of nocturnology and things that go bump in the night.  Slides, wacky props, and volunteers are used to explore the adaptations of nocturnal animals.

Mike Maher is a unique and energetic storyteller promoting respect for natural and cultural histoty. His unique character based programs have delighted, educated, and inspired tens of thousands over the past eight years performing extensively throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin at Schools, Libraries, Nature Centers, and Historical Sites.

Mike’s interactive presentations; Backwoods Buttercup, Frontier Tales, and Professor Owlbert Eyeshine are a perfect blend of entertainment and education.  Audiences of all ages are engaged and involved by unforgettable stories and characters. 

After earning a degree in agricultural education from the Pennsylvania State University, Mike’s professional experience continued as a naturalist with Minnesota’s Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center and as a museum educator with the Manitowoc County Historical Society.  He lives in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin where he can often be found exploring the great outdoors with his wife and dog.
